Want to achieve the Mermaid Face frame? Here’s how with APM National Artistic Director Cassie Siskovic

Step 1: Lift the clients face frame if they are not already blonde. Use Easy Lift 7 for gentle hairline blonding, and apply in three sections. Zone 1 will be a triangular section in the front partline, Zone 2 will be on the sides of the head following the temple to the front of the ear, Zone 3 is in the back hairline. Make these sections as big as you want! The bigger the section, the bolder the face frame!

#PROTip: If you want this look to be lower maintenance, feather your lightener toward the top so that your clients natural can diffuse into the face frame sections. Be sure to lift to a clean level 10 for pastel shades to show through.

Step 2: Pre-Tone the lifted face frame to create a perfect canvas for pastel mermaid tones. Apply EOC Harmonizers (15g) .02 + (15g) .013 + (60g) 20vol Oxid’o to the hair and let it process for 15-20 mins. Shampoo it out when its done.

#PROTip: Keep this harmonizer separate from the rest of the hair if it is natural as it can create shift in virgin hair. For maximum toning end results, process for the full time and apply on dry hair. See below for additional pre tone options based on your client’s canvas after lifting:

• Pale Yellow Canvas: Harmonizers .02 + .013
• Yellow Canvas: Harmonizer .02
• Yellow Gold Canvas: Harmonziers .02 + .01

Step 3: Dry the client’s hair completely and get ready to apply your “mermaid” tones. Section out the portions of the hair that you’ve just lifted. When applying, be sure to hold each section at 0 elevation according to how the hair will naturally fall. This will ensure your keep horizontal lines between each color. Additionally, make sure you apply each shade touching, but not heavily overlapping one another in horizontal blocks. This ensures that you see every color.  See below for mannequin formulas! Process for 15 minutes.

• REV Pastel Orange
• REV (1/2) Pastel Yellow + (1/2) Yellow
• REV (20g) Clear + (6g) Pure Green
• REV Pastel Violet
• REV Pastel Pink

#PROTip: When choosing the order in which you will apply the shades, use the color wheel to guide you. This way, any colors that touch will not be neutralizing one another and will create a beautiful gradient where they touch.

Step 4: Rinse out your mermaid tones with cold water ensuring they do not melt into one another. Dry the hair and style as desired!
