I said what I said. FOUR. Four pictures of hair. I’m going to tell you why and show you how.
You ready?!
Let’s start with the why first. Because hairstylists are FREAKING BUSY! In all of my teaching and coaching, being able to source enough pictures of hair that you can be proud of is THE BIGGEST factor holding people back from marketing themselves.
So I needed to come up with a solution. They don’t call me “Missy fix-it” for nothing...really the “they” is my mom, but that’s neither here nor there.
Why #1
The pictures of hair that you post need to be of the kind of work that you want to do. Not everyone has the type of hair that they want to market themselves toward every day. (That’s why you’re trying to market yourself!) So I vote quality over quantity of hair photos. Make them matter and make them mean something. Also, it should be noted that if your content isn’t all hair, when you do post a photo of hair, it will stand out more on your profile. By George, I think she’s onto something!
Why #2
Future clients need to see why they should choose you. You should want current clients to stay connected with you. We all know “hair” is more than “just hair.” So we need to showcase more than hair. Someone should be able to click on your profile and be able to visually come up with an idea of who you are, what you look like, and what you’re all about.
Sounds pretty legit right?
Ok, now for exactly HOW. You’re going to do this.
You’re in luck, because I’m going to give you a content calendar for the entire month. Posting 4 times a week (which is plenty unless you feel ultra inspired to do more) will yield 18 posts for the month, 4 of them will be hair.
Here’s you’re content calendar:
Day 1- Picture of Hair
Day 2- Picture of You
Day 3- Quote Graphic (inspirational or funny)
Day 4- Info Graphic (something that explains a how-to for your client)
Day 5- Picture your salon interior
Day 6- Picture of Retail
Day 7- Picture of Hair
Day 8- Info Graphic
Day 9- Picture of You
Day 10- Quote Graphic

Day 12- Review Graphic
Day 13- Picture of Hair
Day 14- Quote Graphic
Day 15- Picture of Hair

If you follow this calendar to the T, you’re profile feed will look something like this:
Doesn’t the hair on here get a chance to shine more than if every picture was hair?! I sure think so!
My hope for you is that you read this blog and breath a sigh of release. Instagram doesn’t have to be uber complicated. Use it as the amazing tool it is and enjoy your dang life!
