COPPER PROOF: HOW DARCEE NICE + SEAN MICHAEL BUILT THIS DIMENSIONAL COPPER AT BTC

Copper Proof Formula

If there was one color from BTC that deserved a closer look, it was this one.

Last month, Alfaparf Milano Professional ambassadors Darcee Nice (@hairbydarceee) and Sean Michael (@seanmichaelhair) teamed up on stage to create Copper Proof — a rich, dimensional copper designed to feel polished, expensive and incredibly wearable.

And while the finished shade may be the first thing that catches your eye, the real story starts underneath it.

THE CANVAS COMES FIRST

Before building the final copper, Darcee and Sean used Evolution of the Color 000SSS to lift the base and create a more even canvas.

For stylists, this is the part of the transformation that matters just as much as the final formula.

Copper reflects everything underneath it. Uneven depth, excess darkness or variation through the starting canvas can all influence how the finished tone reads, so taking the time to create a more balanced foundation gave the team greater control over the final result.

Rather than simply placing copper over the existing color, they approached the transformation strategically: first refine the canvas, then build the shade.

LIFT

Once the canvas was prepared, the color was customized through the base, mid-lengths and ends instead of relying on one universal formula from roots to tips.

That’s what gives Copper Proof its depth.

THE BASE: BUILDING RICHNESS + DIMENSION

At the base, the team used EOC Shine Effect to create a saturated copper foundation with enough depth to keep the result sophisticated rather than overly bright.

BASE FORMULA

EOC Shine Effect 25 g 8.4

75 g 7.3

50 g 7.46

20 Vol. Mixed 1:1

The combination creates a rich transition at the base while allowing the copper family to remain the clear focal point.

THE MID-LENGTHS: KEEPING THE COPPER LUMINOUS

Through the mid-lengths, the formula becomes more streamlined.

MID-LENGTHS FORMULA

EOC Shine Effect 8.4

20 Vol. Mixed 1:1

Using a dedicated formula through this area helps maintain the brightness and clarity of the copper while supporting that glossy, reflective finish that makes the color feel so dimensional.

THE ENDS: A BRIGHTER FINISH

The ends were treated separately again, this time with Evolution of the Color 9.04.

ENDS FORMULA

Evolution of the Color 9.04

20 Vol. Mixed 1:1.5

The result is subtle variation from base to ends rather than a flat, one-note red — deeper and richer near the base, luminous through the lengths, and brighter through the finish.

Copper Proof

WHY COPPER PROOF WORKS

What makes this shade especially strong from a professional color perspective is that the formula isn’t trying to force every section of the hair into the same result.

The canvas, base, mid-lengths and ends are each addressed individually.

That means the final copper can still feel cohesive while having the kind of tonal movement and dimension clients immediately read as expensive color.

It’s also a reminder that some of the most beautiful reds and coppers begin long before the final shade is applied.

Creating an even canvas with EOC 000SSS allowed Darcee and Sean to approach the finished color more intentionally — then customize the formula through each area of the hair to control depth, brightness and reflect.

The final result?
